Anzoategui is the most popular coastal federal entity in Venezuela and is frequently visited by boaters and known worldwide. Named after the great hero of the independence of Division General Jose Antonio Anzoategui, who was born in the current state capital, Barcelona. Some of its main cities are: Barcelona, Puerto La Cruz, Puerto Píritu, Dairy, Guanta, El Tigre, Anaco, Cantaura, Bugles,Aragua de Barcelona and Mochima National Park. The territory of Anzoategui was known since the eighteenth century during the Spanish colonization of Venezuela until 1821 and then between 1830 and 1864 as a province of Barcelona,In 18811 was merged with other neighboring states and the State of EAST1 created under the government of General Antonio Guzmán Blanco. It is only since 1909 that the state regains its autonomy and Anzoategui adopted the name in honor of a renowned Venezuelan general of the age of independence. Since 1989 he is allowed to choose their own government and parliament. In 2002 the constitution was approved in force in the state.
