Auyantepuy
La escursione di Kavac si compie ai piedi dei poderosi contrafforti dell Auyantepui, il più imponente tdei torrioni di roccia della Gran Sabana. Situato nella parte orienale dell' Auyantepuy, è raggiungibile unicamente via aerea (da Cabaina e da Santa Elena) con i traballanti ma spettacolari aerotaxi, oppure in modo più avventuroso in canoa, attraverso una estenuante, unga e complicata navigazione sui fiumi, quando le piogge tropicali portano acqua a sufficienza.
Nei pressi della pista di atterraggio, dove un relitto di aereotaxi rimane a monito dei viaggiatori più timorosi, si trova un piccolo villaggio indigeno etto "Indios Pemones", in posizione spettacolare, sotto le lucide pareti verticali del tepui, villaggio attrezzato di cucina per soddisfare il flusso di turisti e a fornire tutta la logistica di supporto per le escursioni che si effettuano nella zona.
Tutta l'area è ricca di torrenti e fiumi che precipitano dalla piatta cima dell'Ayuantepuy e creano innumerevoli cascate circondate da paesaggio fiabesco e che lasciano al viaggiatore un ricordo davvero indelebile.
Percorrendo con lac canoa il corso di uno di questi fiumi,si giunge al Canyon di Kavac, uno dei posti più belli e meravigliosi della Gran Sabana., ma sicuramente anche di tutto il Venezuela e del mondo Ci si addentra all'interno dell' Auyantepuy, in una area praticamente ancora inesplorata in un tripudio di foreste equatoriali, umide e ricche di naimali. Il percorso conta di tratti percorsi in canoa ed altri a piedi, sempre all'insegna di panorami incredibili e primordiali. Dopo circa 2 ore di camminata dal campo base , e dopo avere attraversato paesaggi davvero incantati, si giunge alla Grotta di Kavac, dentro la quale in un fragore assordante , si getta la impressionante Cascata di KAVAC. La pozza dentro la grotta è stupenda, filtra un po' di luce dalla volta brecciata, e i raggi di sole sembrano dei riflettori creati ad hoc per stupire il turista, e ci si può tuffare nelle acque limpide e provare l'emozione di avvicinarsi al getto potente di acqua che scande dal cielo.
L’ escursione viene effettuata con guide espertissime, ed è caldamente consigliata per chi adora passeggiare all' aria aperta ma non disdegna un pizzico d' avventura. Può essere effettuata, sempre in aerotaxi, in giornata da: Canaima, ICiudad Bolivar, isla Margarita, Santa Elena e da Puerto Ordaz. C'è poi la possibilità di alloggiare al Campo Kavac, per chi volesse effettuare la visita con più calma ed esplorare gli altri fiumi spettacolari della regione.
